CHURCH HISTORY
Pleasant Hill Missionary
Baptist Church was founded in
1877 by newly emancipated blacks in the Arkabutla or Mooretown area. The property the original church was built on was purchased
November 22, 1880 for twenty-eight dollars. The church was organized under the leadership of Rev. Richard Williams. The trustees
of the church at that time were London Cartwright, Thorton Echols, William Jones, John Stokes, Edmund Harris, Dick Harris,
and George White.
During
the last years of the Great Depression in November of 1938, under the leadership of Rev. T.L. Tipton, the church burned down
and was rebuilt. During the 1970’s church services were held every third Sunday, bathrooms and carpets were added, and
the church was supported by $3.00 dues submitted by members yearly. During the early nineties the church at the Fogg Rd. location was remodeled. In November of 2005 the congregation
moved into the current location in the Hernando city limits. We have come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord, and we continue
to seek the Lord’s guidance as we move forward.
